「リタージカル ミュージック」は、6つの楽章からなるラージ打楽器アンサンブルのための作品です。各楽章には、聖書の聖句や聖なる読み物が登場します。神聖な意味合いを持っていますが、この作品はコンサートでの演奏を目的としていますが、キリスト教の教会の礼拝で演奏されることも考えられます。卓越したスコアリング、革新的な打楽器の使用、記憶に残るメロディーと半音階的な和声進行など、ギリングハムらしい作品です。
