ティモシー・マーに師事したオグレンが書いたこの作品は、ギリングハムに「私がこの曲を書きたかった」と言わしめた秀作。
タイトルの「ガイア」は、ギリシャ神話に登場する巨人の大地の女神であり、現在では生態系の管理と知恵を象徴する世界共通のシンボルとなっている。 曲は神秘的な雰囲気で始まり、全員の歌によって主題が登場し、徐々に盛り上がっていく。後半は速いテンポで展開していき、壮大に終わる。 コンクールにもコンサートにもおすすめの1曲。
